Mottolino Bike Park: since 2005, a benchmark bike park in the European scene and the downhill destination of the Livigno area.
A late August morning at the Mottolino facility, at the café at the foot of the mountain by the gondola departure. For the first time, there isn’t the usual August crowd—a thermometer that has measured the summer's success.
We meet Ian Rocca, a 29-year-old former Italian freestyle skiing national team athlete. Over a coffee with his evergreen grandfather Luciano and father Marco, who guided Mottolino to the successes recognized by everyone today, Ian—the company’s Managing Councillor—is keen to keep the course steady on the identity that has always distinguished Mottolino: "Since 2005, we have been investing in the specific aspects of the freestyle world when it comes to bikes, alongside the snow world, undoubtedly. In summer, our specialty is the gravity world and mountain biking in general, even though our offer remains multi-purpose."

Mottolino is fresh off the 2026 Olympic Games. After all, the vast majority of the five-ring snowboarding and freestyle skiing disciplines took place on this side of the mountain. "An extraordinary, unrepeatable experience; it is unthinkable not to realize how much this event will only be positive for Livigno in the future from every point of view." An incredible event that will lead to Livigno's ultimate consecration. Ian is right. It is not yet time for official end-of-summer reviews, but Rocca is satisfied: "We close the lifts at the end of September, but we can already sense a growth in visitor numbers compared to the last two-year period. August was truly a success; now an exceptional month arrives for the gravity world and for MTBs and cycling in general. I invite everyone to get in the saddle this September, as well as starting from June next year—we all still have room to grow in these periods, which are definitely worth discovering."

Mottolino has always had a vocation for fun and sense of community. The target audience is certainly broad, but with young people at the forefront. At the departure of the gondola lift stands a versatile rental shop with all types of bikes: the name says it all, The House of Biking."
Mottolino Bike Park - riding quality and care for trails
Two schools collaborate directly with Mottolino: Black Bike School and Livigno Bike. Downhill is the defining feature: 45 kilometers of trails featuring a wide variety of routes where anyone can try their hand. The DH 2005 represents the true crown jewel in terms of technical difficulty and the beauty of the course—a slope that hosted the 2005 UCI World Championships. "Trails of all kinds, it's true, because we must keep pushing the message that this discipline is accessible to everyone," says Ian. "Obviously step by step, but we offer every type of slope and several kilometers for beginners. By the way, we are about to open the Green Velvet, the manifesto of an accessible trail that is also suitable for people with disabilities."
Ian concludes by looking to the future: "Like the whole of Livigno, we are focusing more and more on the summer months as well, and I am certain that we will increasingly become a destination of excellence during this period too, thanks precisely to Livigno's ability to innovate and its top-tier offering."
